Christmas Wishes

It’s that time of the year when we assess all that’s gone on and if it was a good year. We welcomed our first grandchild into the world this year, that was exciting, and looking forward to spending time with family most of all.

So happy to be all together this Christmas, and looking forward to relaxing and chatting and in general having a good time.decoration

I have a really special pressie for Alan, and he hasn’t a clue what it is. So I’m hoping to keep it secret until Christmas Day which will be a major feat for me. And, no, it’s not a puppy after the last disaster…

The cardigan is finished and turned out alright. It should fit for a week or so, then I’ll make a bigger version. Love those deep pockets, useful for holding chocolate santa’s and pennies.

Work for me finishes on Wednesday night, when I’ll hang up my dishcloth and feather duster and shake off the mucky boots from the building site and go, ‘Phew!’ They kindly invited me to a fry up in the pub with the 120 builders from the site; I declined as I have other morning plans. Kind of them to ask me though.

I’m happy to be able to hold my Redington book in my hand, after all the writing of the stories, it’s done, and has a review already as well. I’m going to get on with another over the holidays, and some stories as well. Priority for me is time with family though, that’s most precious.

Glam gran says, ‘Who’s Hettie?’

Hello to all my lovely followers, new ones and older ones.

I read a great book yesterday, this one – Short story secrets – turning words into money. That sounded good to me, and the e-book is great as well. So thanks Hettie for all the great tips, and I’m going to be writing this afternoon, when I’ve finished blogging.

Hettie is the pen name of a writer who has had over 200 stories published in women’s magazines, and she is an older lady, who is definitely glam; I know that from her beauty tips in the next book. They could have come directly from my Grandma’s scrap-book, and they’re fab. One little clue tells me who Hetty might be, but that person isn’t as old as the lady I’m thinking of… We once had ‘Where’s Wally?’ Now I’m working on ‘Who’s Hettie?’ My spell checker wants to call her Hattie, but I do prefer Hettie. Maybe I’ll be Bessie Baintree from now on, and write naughty stories.

In complete contrast, another book I’ve got on kindle is this one An ugly way to go is full of short stories with laugh out loud moments. Great to read when you stop for coffee, which in my case is quite often. If you like quirky stories, and I do, this is for you. I haven’t reviewed it yet as I’m still reading those funnies.

This book has over 300 reviews and can’t wait to read it soon. I’m guessing St. Eves in South West England is based on St. Ives.

A cover of a book makes a difference, I tend to go for either colourful ones, or classical ones, how about you?

Now Glam Gran’s tip of the week is, drink water. If you don’t like it plain, then add some squash, or a slice of lemon. A glass of water in the morning, and mid-day, and again later on will keep your skin glowing and send oxygen to all parts of the body, which is always good.

green teaI’ve found a new green tea with lemon, it’s lovely, and takes away the bitterness that sometimes comes with green tea. Still losing the weight, but it’s more about stabilising at the mo, and not putting any back on.

Until next week, when Glynis Scrivens will be here, bysie bye…….

Glam Gran’s blog, big is beautiful

Digital imageHello to all my followers and to the new ones as well. Time for me to tell you about the latest super food I’ve discovered. Well, someone told me about it, and he’s one who’s tried it, so I know it works.

Just to let you know that I’m not promoting skinniness; I’ve changed my diet for health reasons, like cholesterol, blood pressure and weight being too high. We all know big is beautiful because Mika and Meghan Trainor sing about it, and you have to agree…

I’m talking about coconut oil.

coconutMake sure you get the virgin one, as it’s got no extra things added. You can stir it into coffee or use it in cooking instead of the marge, or butter. It speeds up metabolism, and lowers cholesterol, but gives you the good cholesterol.

I made some sultana and coconut muffins, and they are delicious, or they were.

WP_20150530_13_27_17_ProThey fill you up more than usual muffins, and go great with a cup of tea. This is the recipe. Only where she’s put butter, I used coconut oil. You can buy it in supermarkets, and it’s like honey in a jar, only white. The muffins are easy to make, and there are lots of other great things on that website to make, so I’ll be popping back to see what else I can cook up, to eat.

I started all this healthy eating caper back in April, and now I’ve lost a stone in weight. Yes, I’m amazed myself, but it’s good fun now I have lots of great things to eat and drink, like the Spirulina smoothies…. spirulina

and green tea with a sprig of ginger mint in… I even had to go shopping for a few items of clothing as everything is beginning to look a bit on the baggy side.

Until next time, stay fabulous.

Hello followers, new ones and favourite ones. Hope all is well in your worlds. I’d lost four and a half pounds last week with the mediterranean diet. And today, I’ve made some lentil burgers, with onions and garlic, mustard and extra bits and bobs.

I’ve got this little machine from the doctors, to check my blood pressure. I’m sure they do that so that when you see the reading, it shocks you into sticking to the new way of eating. Today though, it was almost normal, so that’s good.

Every morning, now, I take a canister of green tea with jasmine to work, or there’s one with pineapple and grapefruit. It’s a taste you need to get used to, but when you do, you’ll love it. The good thing is that it tastes alright cold as well.

Lowers blood pressure and regulates metabolism

Another superfood I’ve been told about, by a man who knows, is Spirulina. It’s a type of plant algae, and it goes into a smoothie... you mix other things with it to disguise the taste apparently, so I’ve ordered some of that.

spirulina

think of the health benefits, and don’t mind the taste.

I’ll be mixing it with soya milk, banana, and maybe a kiwi fruit, and some soya yoghurt. It’s a 200g bag, and you only use a teaspoonful at a time so it should last a while.

Flax seeds are a great way to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure as well. When you read up on them, it makes you wonder why they aren’t on the checkouts at all supermarkets…

This is a good book —- skeleton in the closet by M.C. Beaton. The usual mix of great characters, good fun and lots of adventure. Also still reading other books on my kindle, which is great for in the garden.

ATT00042This is going to be my hideous before picture. By the way, it’s not me, it’s my older uglier fatter dafter sister, who sells tat on markets. I try to avoid her if I can. Haven’t seen her for quite a while, so maybe she’s emigrated with a bit of luck. Meanwhile, I’m off to make a cup of green tea.
